WEB SUMMIT 2022 REVIEW
Web Summit is an annual technology conference held in Lisbon, Portugal. The conference’s topics center on internet technology, emerging technologies, and venture capitalism. Web Summit’s partners range from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups, with attendees representing all levels and sectors of the global high technology industry.
Customer centrality seems to be what e-commerce players are betting on to revolutionize the various industries. Creating technology that adapts to the customer’s behavior is what will enable waste reduction and higher efficiency. One of the companies that touched on this was SheIn, which is using technology to better calculate product demand and achieve a waste level of just 2%.
On the other hand, in 2022, Web3 was one of the biggest topics for discussions at the Web Summit without exception. From gaming to content creators, community builders and crypto traders, the case for Web3 is becoming increasingly compelling. In Web3, the predominant technologies will be blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This will mean a drastic transformation of the online sphere, with a much more decentralized network in which users and content creators will have greater control. At least, that is what companies such as Binance, which is heavily involved in this transformation that threatens to change the current balance of the Internet. The future of cryptocurrencies played a big part in this. The positions varied from “Crypto is ruining people’s lives to suggesting that crypto can be the alternative to the existing financial system.
Artificial intelligence is a trend that is once again taking center stage at this year’s Web Summit. While Amazon explained how they are integrating it into our daily lives through so-called “ambient intelligence”, other companies want to take it further by combining it with other technologies. Big Data, machine learning and the Metaverse will open up new applications for AI. The possibilities range from the robotization of industrial and agricultural activities, to the creation of relevant conversations with brands on social media. Or even Metahumans who will be our digital twins in the virtual world!
